Thanks, Photography was what I did overseas to keep sane. I was in Okinawa, I wasn't religious, I didn't drink and I was already working out 4 hours a day 6 days a week. So I bought a camera and started taking pictures of the landscape. It's actually kind of interesting how much the basics of being infantry is similar to photography. Attention to detail, awareness of surroundings etc. I did really have to change how I relate to people though.
I don't typically use that one but it's very true. I live in a very liberal area and have to be careful with certain analogies. How is it strange to have infantry on Okinawa? It is home to the 4th Marine Regiment with 4 battalions of infantry. It is a bit strange in that it is not a base station for any infantry units. They do 6 month deployments there called the Unit Deployment Plan. My base station was 29 Palms, CA. there just wasn't much I was interested in in the middle of the Mojave Desert.
